Taliban Bans Transactions in Government-Recognized Housing Complexes
The Taliban administration has announced a ban on any new transactions in housing complexes identified as government property by the Commission to Prevent Land Grabbing and confirmed by special courts, a decision that imposes new restrictions on property owners, tenants, and housing sector activists.
The Taliban Ministry of Justice stated in a Saturday press release that, based on the commission’s declaration, contracts involving rent agreements, conditional sales, purchases, and any new occupation of residential and commercial areas within these complexes are prohibited. Both individuals and legal entities, including real estate offices, are forbidden from conducting or facilitating such transactions.
According to the commission, dozens of housing complexes across the country have been designated as government property. In most cases, special courts handling land grabbing cases have issued religious rulings confirming the government ownership of these lands.
The announcement further specifies that individuals who rented homes or shops from previous occupants before the court ruling must, after the government ownership is confirmed, pay rent to the Islamic Emirate. The statement emphasized that former occupants have no right to collect rent from tenants following the court rulings.
The Commission to Prevent Land Grabbing added that details of the bank accounts for rent payments for homes and shops in these complexes will be announced soon.
