WHO and UNICEF Warn of Rising Malnutrition Crisis in Afghanistan

Representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF have issued a warning about the increasing rate of malnutrition in Afghanistan, urging the expansion of immediate support for mothers and children.

These concerns were raised on Sunday, July 31, during a meeting marking World Breastfeeding Week. According to the representatives, despite the vital role of breastfeeding in infant health, many women in Afghanistan face serious barriers to providing proper nutrition for their children.

A lack of awareness about proper feeding practices, limited access to counseling services, and economic hardships faced by families are among the factors making the nutritional situation of mothers and children vulnerable.

The representatives cautioned that malnutrition could cause irreversible damage to the physical and mental development of children and emphasized that strengthening support programs and expanding nutrition services across Afghanistan is an urgent necessity.
