Taliban Administration Claims Afghanistan’s Budget Is ‘Sufficient’ but Withholds Detailed Figures
The Taliban administration considers Afghanistan’s budget to be “sufficient” for continuing governance and implementing projects, yet it has refrained from providing precise and transparent statistics regarding its financial resources.
Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, stated today, Sunday, during the second session of “Governance in the Mirror of the Press,” that the current budget covers the salaries of 1.04 million government employees and, according to him, there are no problems in this area.
In a part of the 1404 (2025) annual activity report, he claimed that Afghanistan has achieved self-sufficiency capacity in 300 domestic production items and semi-self-sufficiency in 100 others.
Mujahid also announced that the total value of Afghanistan’s trade during this period reached $13.901 billion, compared to $13.074 billion in the previous year.
According to the Taliban spokesperson, exports amounted to $1.722 billion and imports to $12.178 billion, while the previous year saw exports of $1.707 billion and imports of $11.367 billion.
He added that 10 billion afghanis were invested in mining projects last year.
Mujahid made these statements in the context of reporting the activities and what he described as the “achievements” of 1404 related to the Ministries of Economy, Mines and Petroleum, Finance, Transport and Aviation, Industry and Trade, Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, the Standards and Quality Authority, and the Central Bank. The Taliban administration has not yet publicly released comprehensive details of the annual budget or its expenditures.
