Pakistan Pushes to Revive US-Iran Talks Amid Middle East Tensions

Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Pakistan has announced it is pursuing intensive diplomatic efforts to revive dialogue between the United States and Iran within the framework of the Islamabad understanding. According to Pakistani officials, this initiative aims to prevent the escalation of the crisis, particularly in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Tahir Andrabi, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters on Thursday that talks between the “parties” to normalize the situation are continuing, with the security of the Strait of Hormuz being a key focus of these consultations. He emphasized that Islamabad views support for diplomacy as the only practical option.

Andrabi stated that Pakistan welcomes any initiative leading to a continued cessation of hostilities and the resumption of negotiations between Tehran and Washington. He added that Pakistan is making its “utmost effort” to persuade both sides to implement the provisions of the Islamabad understanding and resolve existing obstacles based on the spirit of agreement and the joint Pakistan-Qatar statement issued on June 22.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson also warned that despite relative calm in recent days, the region’s security situation remains fragile. He urged both the United States and Iran to exercise maximum restraint and adhere to their commitments to resume technical-level talks according to the Islamabad framework.

The Islamabad understanding was signed last month to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington. Pakistan is actively mediating to prevent the spread of instability in a region where the Strait of Hormuz serves as a critical conduit for global energy transit.
