Taliban Extends Registration Period for ‘One-Key’ Vehicles Until End of 1405
The Taliban administration has announced that the process of registering and collecting fees for undocumented vehicles, known as ‘one-key’ vehicles, will be extended until the end of the year 1405 (Islamic Solar Calendar). This program will now resume in seven zones across the country.
The Taliban Ministry of Finance stated in a press release today that this decision was made based on the ministry’s proposal, cabinet approval, and the leader of the Taliban administration’s endorsement. According to the announcement, the registration and fee collection process for undocumented vehicles has begun in the Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Kunduz, Khost, and Paktia zones.
The ministry noted that, considering the ‘economic conditions of the citizens,’ discounts on the fees for these vehicles have been introduced. Under the new decision, a 35% discount applies to standard vehicles from model years 1990 to 2004, while a 60% discount applies to models from 2005 to the latest. Additionally, a 20% tariff has been set for both standard and armored undocumented vehicles.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance said that the General Directorate of Traffic Police under the Taliban Ministry of Interior Affairs has been tasked with fully enforcing the regulations and rulings related to the control of undocumented vehicles under this decision.
The ministry also remarked that last year, discounts of 30% for standard vehicles from 1990 to 2004 and 40% for models from 2005 to the latest were in effect, with a 30% tariff applied to both standard and armored vehicles.
‘One-key’ vehicles refer to vehicles lacking official registration and documentation within the country. Over recent years, they have presented a significant challenge to both traffic management and government revenue collection.
