184 Former Military Personnel Killed in Past Three Months Under Taliban Rule, Warns Afghan Commander
Samia Sadat, a commander of the former government’s army and head of the “United Front of Afghanistan,” announced that 184 cases of killings of former military personnel have been documented in the past three months since the Taliban took control. According to him, some victims were subjected to torture prior to being killed.
On Tuesday, 30th of Saratan (July), Sadat wrote on the social media platform X that these cases are backed by documented evidence and that “many” of the victims faced “horrific torture” before death.
Sadat also warned that former military members being expelled from Iran and Turkey to Afghanistan face even greater risks, with an increased likelihood of being killed.
He emphasized that those responsible for the “killings, torture, and other abuses” against former military personnel must be held accountable under the law, adding that “no regime can secure its future through fear and brutality.”
The former army commander shared photos of several former soldiers and called on those who still sympathize with the Taliban administration to look at the victims’ faces and reflect on the consequences of these incidents. Previously, human rights organizations have reported incidents of detention, torture, and killing of former government military personnel — claims the Taliban administration has consistently denied.
