Taliban Detain Seven After Armed Attack on Yaftal Payan District in Badakhshan

The Taliban’s security command in Badakhshan has confirmed that Yaftal Payan district was targeted in an armed attack, resulting in the detention of seven individuals along with military equipment. According to Taliban officials, the incident coincided with the leave of several fighters and their commanders.
Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the Taliban’s security command in Badakhshan, said on Friday, July 14, that the attack occurred last night and after several hours, Taliban forces regained control of the district. He did not provide details on possible casualties but emphasized that the detained individuals are under investigation.
Following the event, Faziluddin Fetrat, chief of staff of the Taliban army, traveled to Badakhshan and warned that anyone disrupting the security of the province would face action from Taliban fighters. These remarks come amid widespread dissatisfaction and sporadic armed activities in Badakhshan over recent years.
At the same time, local sources told media outlets that with Fetrat’s presence in Badakhshan, the atmosphere in Yaftal Payan district has become heavily militarized. According to these sources, some local residents complain about harsh confrontations, extensive searches, and harassment by Taliban fighters, raising concerns about the human rights situation in the area.
Previously, local sources also claimed that the so-called “Mehin Army Front” briefly took control of Yaftal Payan district and raised their flag on government buildings. These claims have not been independently verified, but their widespread circulation on social media indicates heightened public sensitivity to security developments in northeastern Afghanistan.
Social media users have reacted variously to the incident; some see it as a sign of escalating security challenges for the Taliban administration, while others have voiced concerns about potential consequences for local residents.
