Afghanistan and Iran Focus on Afghan Migrants’ Issues at Kabul Consular Meeting

The fifth meeting of the Joint Consular Committee between Afghanistan and Iran was held in Kabul, where both sides announced that the primary focus of the discussions was addressing the problems faced by Afghan migrants and improving consular services.
Dr. Mohammad Naeem, Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration at the Taliban-led Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Vahid Jalalzadeh, Deputy for Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, chaired the delegations from their respective countries. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from both sides discussed and exchanged views on the existing challenges in providing consular services and other related matters.
A statement released noted that the parties also talked about topics of shared interest and mutual benefit, although no specific details of the discussions were provided.
Both countries also committed to hold regular joint consular committee meetings to facilitate the delivery of services to citizens and to more swiftly examine existing problems. This comes amid ongoing complaints from many Afghan migrants in Iran regarding the complexity of administrative procedures and delays in handling consular cases—issues that require practical action and sustained follow-up from the Taliban administration.
