Pakistan Proposes UN-Coordinated Regional Summit on Afghanistan

Mahmood Khan Achakzai, leader of the opposition coalition in Pakistan, has proposed that Islamabad organize a regional summit on Afghanistan in coordination with the United Nations. According to him, the aim of the summit is to examine claims about the use of Afghan territory for insecurity and to seek solutions through dialogue.
Achakzai stated that representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan should attend the summit. He also emphasized that officials from the Taliban administration and Maulana Fazlur Rehman should participate in these talks.
In recent years, the issue of using Afghan soil for destabilizing activities has become a central point of tension between Kabul and some neighboring countries. The Taliban administration has consistently denied these claims, but several neighboring states have called for concrete and transparent measures to prevent armed groups from operating across the borders.
Experts believe that holding a regional summit with all involved parties could provide a platform for direct dialogue and reduce distrust; however, the success of such an initiative depends on the political will and acceptance of clear responsibilities by the parties, especially the Taliban administration.
