25 Tons of Smuggled Goods Seized in Nimroz Province

A customs official from Nimroz province announced the seizure of nearly 25 tons of smuggled goods, including human medicines, chocolate, and copper, within the province’s jurisdiction. According to the official, two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, and initial investigations are underway.
Mawlāwī Abdul Ghafār Mahmūd stated that the seized shipments consisted of 9 tons of human medicines, 14 tons and 497 kilograms of chocolate, and 1 ton and 526 kilograms of copper, hidden in 10 vehicles. He added that these goods were being smuggled into Nimroz through Pakistan and Iran.
According to information provided, the shipments were discovered in the districts of Kang, Charborjak, and the city of Zaranj. Due to its border with Iran and Pakistan, Nimroz is considered a key transit route and has frequently been the site of smuggling reports.
The customs official further noted that the confiscated goods, along with the vehicles, have been handed over to relevant authorities to proceed with legal measures. However, experts have repeatedly emphasized the need for more effective monitoring and transparent accountability by the Taliban administration at border crossings to prevent economic losses and health threats caused by the influx of counterfeit medicines.
