11 Bodies Recovered From Migrant Vehicle Accident in Laghman; 2 Still Missing

Eleven bodies of victims have been recovered six days after a vehicle carrying migrants returning from Pakistan overturned in Laghman province, with two others still missing. The spokesperson for the Taliban’s security command in Laghman said that search operations are ongoing.

Mohammad Younus Yousafzai announced on Wednesday, 17th Saratan, that the vehicle which fell into the river on the night of Thursday, 11th Saratan, in the Kheyrukhil area along the Kabul–Jalalabad highway was transporting 22 returning migrants. According to him, nine people were rescued alive that night, and the bodies of four victims were also found.

He added that during the past few days, rescue teams and the Afghan Red Crescent have discovered the bodies of seven more victims. However, efforts to find the two missing individuals continue.

The security command attributed the incident to “driver negligence,” but the recurrence of such deadly accidents on this highway raises serious questions about road safety, vehicle supervision, and traffic management by the Taliban administration.

Previously, vehicles carrying migrants returning from Pakistan along the same route have encountered similar incidents. Last month, on 9th Jawza, a vehicle overturned in Qargha district of Laghman, killing 18 people and injuring 29 others.
