Kazemi Qomi: Taliban Does Not Represent All of Afghanistan

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, former Iranian envoy to Afghanistan, stated that the simultaneous invitation of the Taliban administration delegation and the group’s opponents to Tehran was not political in nature. He emphasized that the Taliban does not represent all the people of Afghanistan and only a segment of the society.

On Monday, July 6, Kazemi Qomi told the Iranian media outlet IRNA that the people of Afghanistan have various representatives; some are currently in power, while others are outside the governance structure. According to him, Iran maintains relations with all the people of Afghanistan and does not limit its interactions to just one side.

He also explained that the invitation extended to the Taliban opposition delegation to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the martyred leader of Iran, was conducted within the framework of cultural, civilizational, and religious ties and should not be interpreted as a political matter.

These remarks from the former Iranian official come amid recent reactions on social media regarding the simultaneous invitation of the Taliban administration and its opponents to participate in the ceremony paying respect to the leader’s body. Some users viewed this move as carrying political messages, but Kazemi Qomi stressed its non-political nature.
