Trump Expresses Surprise at Iranians’ Tears During Khamenei’s Funeral Procession

Donald Trump, President of the United States, stated that he was surprised by the widespread emotional response and tears of many Iranians during the funeral procession of the martyr Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. He added that he had previously held a different view regarding the level of popular support for him.

In an interview with the Axios website, Trump mentioned that Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, has requested a meeting with him at the White House, which may take place early next week local time. According to Trump, relations between the two sides are “very good.”

The US president also said that Netanyahu has made an official request for this meeting and that the possible timing is under consideration. In the interview, Trump emphasized his close coordination with the Israeli Prime Minister.

He further claimed that an agreement had been reached between him and Iranian officials to suspend negotiations for one week during the funeral ceremonies, during which neither side would engage in military actions against the other.

In another part of his remarks, Trump stressed that witnessing the scenes of mourning and the tears of the people at the funeral of the martyr Khamenei was unexpected for him, as he believed some segments of the population held negative views towards him.
