Afghanistan Ranks Last in 2026 Global Passport Index

According to the 2026 Global Passport Index published by the international company Global Citizen Solutions, Afghanistan’s passport ranks last among 197 countries. Afghanistan scored 23.10 out of 100 in this evaluation, securing the lowest position in the ranking.

This index assesses countries based on three main criteria: visa-free travel access, attractiveness for investment, and quality of life. The latest results reveal that Afghan passport holders face widespread restrictions across all three categories.

The report highlights a significant gap between Afghanistan’s passport and the world’s strongest ones. Sweden leads the index with a score of 96.05, followed closely by Switzerland, Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands occupying the top spots.

Somalia, South Sudan, Yemen, and Syria are also among the countries with the weakest passports globally. The decline in Afghanistan’s international standing in recent years—especially following the return of Taliban rule and increasing political and economic isolation—is seen as a key factor directly impacting the country’s passport ranking and exacerbating travel difficulties and limited access to global opportunities for its citizens.
