WFP Warns of Rising Malnutrition in Afghanistan Ahead of Harsh Winter

The World Food Programme (WFP) has raised concerns over the increasing levels of malnutrition in Afghanistan, particularly among women and children.

According to the United Nations agency, the risk of worsening malnutrition is sharply rising as winter approaches. The WFP has warned that, for the first time in decades, a comprehensive and nationwide response to the crisis may not be possible.

Describing the situation as a “preventable crisis,” the organization emphasized that immediate and timely support could prevent further harm and save the lives of many Afghans.

In recent years, a combination of deep economic crisis, recurring droughts, and restrictions imposed by the Taliban on aid organizations has severely limited public access to food and healthcare services.

The Taliban administration, which over the past two years has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis through ineffective policies and decision-making, has yet to provide a clear response or effective strategy to address rising malnutrition. This lack of action has heightened concerns among international organizations and human rights advocates.
