Taliban Emphasize Formation of Joint Economic Committee Between Helmand and South Khorasan

Mawlawi Noor Muhammad Mutawakkil, the Taliban’s Consul General in Mashhad, emphasized the creation of a joint working committee to regulate and strengthen economic cooperation between Helmand Province and Iran’s South Khorasan Province during a meeting with economic activists from both regions. He stated that Helmand and South Khorasan can play complementary roles in terms of economic capacities. According to him, establishing an organized mechanism can regulate trade relations between merchants of the two provinces and pave the way for expanding commerce. Several economic activists from both sides attended the meeting and discussed ways to develop trade cooperation, facilitate exchange processes, and better utilize existing capacities. Helmand is considered one of Afghanistan’s major agricultural provinces, while South Khorasan, due to its border location, is one of the important transit points for trade exchanges between the two countries. The establishment of a joint economic committee can contribute to greater coordination among merchants, reduce administrative obstacles, and strengthen trade connections at the local level—an issue that economic activists from both provinces emphasized as important.
