UNFPA Donates Ambulances to Remote Health Centers in Jawzjan and Sar-e Pol

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has donated several ambulances to family health houses in Afghanistan’s northern provinces of Jawzjan and Sar-e Pol. Funded by the European Union, the initiative is aimed at improving access to emergency medical services for pregnant women in remote areas of the two provinces.

According to a statement from the agency, equipping the family health houses with ambulances is a step toward reducing maternal health risks in the underserved and mountainous regions of Jawzjan and Sar-e Pol, where transportation to well-equipped medical centers is often difficult.

Family health houses are among the primary healthcare facilities in Afghanistan, operating with limited resources in remote villages. With the provision of emergency transport vehicles, it is hoped that the lives of many women and newborns during childbirth can be saved.

The move comes amid Afghanistan’s severely weakened healthcare infrastructure and the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on health organizations and female staff, which pose serious challenges to delivering timely emergency medical care in many parts of the country.
