UK Welcomes UNAMA Mission Extension to Support Afghanistan

Richard Lindsay, the UK’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, has welcomed the extension of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for another year. He described the decision as crucial for sustaining the coordinated efforts of the international community in Afghanistan.

Lindsay stated that UNAMA, alongside national and international partners, plays a prominent role in supporting the delivery of UK aid to the Afghan people. He emphasized that the mission continues to hold a key position in coordinating the extensive efforts of the global community in Afghanistan.

Following recent political developments, UNAMA remains one of the most significant international structures active in the country, with responsibilities in humanitarian aid, human rights, and aid coordination. The continuation of UNAMA’s mission comes at a time when Afghanistan faces widespread economic and humanitarian challenges, highlighting the ongoing need for regular and transparent cooperation between international organizations and the Taliban administration.
