Taliban’s Amir Khan Muttaqi Highlights Scientific Cooperation as Key Tool for Regional Diplomacy

Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister of the Taliban administration, stated at the joint meeting of the “Research Centers of Afghanistan and Central Asia” that scientific and research cooperation is among the most sustainable, cost-effective, and impactful tools of diplomacy between countries. He emphasized that global experience has shown that many significant political, economic, and regional initiatives first emerge within academic and intellectual institutions before becoming official government policies. According to Muttaqi, regional countries need to strengthen their intellectual foundations, establish sustainable collaboration frameworks, and expand communication among research institutions to make major political and economic decisions. These remarks come amid the Taliban administration’s ongoing struggle with international legitimacy. The group is seeking to enhance its interactions with neighboring countries and Central Asia through regional and scientific meetings.
