Taliban Deputy Meets Nangarhar Tourism Companies to Discuss Sector Challenges and Development

Mawlawi Powdatullah Jamal, Deputy of Tourism, Finance, and Administration at the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture, met with officials from the Union of Tourist, Pilgrimage, Hajj, and Umrah Companies of Nangarhar Province to discuss the progress and challenges of this sector.

According to a bulletin released by Bakhtar Agency, Fazl-ur-Rahim Zwakman, head of the union, expressed gratitude for the “care and support” provided by the Taliban administration and pledged to improve the quality and operational standards of the companies’ services.

Union members urged for the expedited issuance of licenses during the meeting and proposed initiatives to attract tourists, including organizing handicraft exhibitions in the historic Seraj al-Amarat Garden and expanding tourism activities in Nangarhar. They also expressed their readiness to invest in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the province’s tourist sites.

The union officials emphasized their commitment to collaborate with the Ministry of Information and Culture in regulating tourism affairs, ensuring cleanliness and order.

In response, the ministry’s deputy said he would share the raised demands and proposals with other relevant Taliban departments. He stressed the importance of providing high-standard services by tourism and pilgrimage companies and added that the ministry supports their activities.

Nangarhar, a key province in eastern Afghanistan, boasts the historic Seraj al-Amarat Garden and several natural and pilgrimage sites, making it a potential hub for tourism growth. However, industry stakeholders have consistently highlighted the need for transparency in license issuance, reduction of bureaucracy, and practical facilities for investors—factors that directly impact private sector confidence and sustainable tourism development.
