Tensions Rise Between Trump and Netanyahu Over Iran War Strategy

A U.S. official has reported significant disagreements between Donald Trump, the President of the United States, and Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, regarding the continuation of the war with Iran. According to the official, these differing views have become more apparent during the recent crisis and have even led to a direct phone conversation between the two leaders.

According to a report by Axios, Netanyahu views continuing the war as a means to strengthen his political position, while Trump prefers to pursue an end to the conflict to safeguard his electoral future. The source added that Trump explicitly warned that if Israel returns to war with Iran, Washington will not support it and Israel will be “alone” in the fight.

In this context, it was reported that Trump requested Netanyahu in a phone call not to respond to Iran’s missile retaliations following the ceasefire violation—a request that was rejected by the Israeli Prime Minister. This issue highlights a rift in the approach of the two traditional allies toward recent developments.

On the other side, Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that Israel’s hostile actions in the region do not occur without Washington’s coordination. Meanwhile, the newspaper Haaretz reported that a failed attempt to resume a wide-scale war with Iran, as well as renewed attacks on Lebanon, was aimed at influencing the Knesset election process and even possibly canceling it.
