Lebanon’s Nabih Berri Calls for Complete, Unconditional Ceasefire with Israel

Nabih Berri, Speaker of Lebanon’s Parliament, declared that his country accepts only a full, comprehensive, and unconditional ceasefire with the Israeli regime. He rejected any phased plan outside the framework of simultaneous obligations by both parties. In an interview with the ‘Wise’ platform, Berri emphasized that Lebanon’s official stance is based on establishing a nationwide ceasefire on land, sea, and air. According to him, addressing other issues should take place only after the final stabilization of this ceasefire, and the prerequisite for any subsequent action is the complete halt of hostilities. He explained that the next step must include the simultaneous withdrawal of the Israeli army and Hezbollah forces from south of the Litani River to pave the way for the deployment of the Lebanese army in these areas. Berri added that with government forces deployed, residents and displaced persons can return to their towns and villages. The speaker of Lebanon’s parliament also called the creation of ‘test zones’ by Israel on Lebanese soil unacceptable, describing it as contradictory to the agreed-upon mechanism. He stressed that the top priority is Israel’s withdrawal and the simultaneous implementation of agreements, along with the return of residents to their areas. At the same time, Berri welcomed any international efforts to end the conflict and stated that any ceasefire proposal, regardless of its source, would be pursued if it leads to a complete end to the war.
