Luxembourg MEP Says EU’s Hardline Stance Has Halted Dialogue with Moscow

A Luxembourg representative in the European Parliament has stated that the European Union’s restrictive foreign policy approach and the attitude of some member states have created a significant obstacle to resuming dialogue between Europe and Russia.

Fernand Kartheiser, Luxembourg’s MEP, told the RIA Novosti news agency that the policies of EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas towards Moscow have been excessively tough. Alongside this, he criticized the “very disruptive” actions of several member states for limiting the necessary conditions to restart negotiations.

He emphasized that without a change in the approach of some European politicians, achieving diplomatic progress in relations with Russia will be difficult. According to him, the continuation of the current situation undermines the prospects for any positive development in Brussels-Moscow relations.

These remarks come as Sergey Naryshkin, head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, previously stated that the EU is rapidly strengthening its military capabilities and is moving toward becoming a military alliance against Russia. He also claimed that NATO is effectively preparing for a large-scale armed conflict in the East.

Tensions between Russia and European countries have increased in recent years, and the issue of dialogue versus confrontation remains a central topic in Europe’s political discussions.
