India Condemns Pakistan’s Attacks on Afghan Civilians

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations condemned Pakistan’s attacks on civilian areas in Afghanistan, stating that 750 people were killed or injured in the first three months of this year. He raised the issue during a Security Council meeting, strongly criticizing attacks on civilian centers, especially a drug rehabilitation clinic.

The Indian diplomat cited reports from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), noting that some airstrikes occurred as worshippers were leaving the mosque after Tarawih prayers and as patients were leaving the clinic. This has raised serious concerns about the protection of civilians.

He also accused Pakistan of ignoring the UN Secretary-General’s call to adhere to international obligations, particularly regarding the protection of civilians and the prevention of forced repatriation of Afghan refugees.

The Indian representative emphasized that invoking international law principles while civilians are targeted in the darkness of night is inconsistent with internationally accepted standards. These remarks come amid reports that the security situation in some Afghan border areas remains fragile, increasing concerns about the impact on local residents and refugees.
