Herat Governor Orders Swift Export of Fresh Fruits to Prevent Losses

Coinciding with the start of the fresh fruit harvest season, the Governor of Herat has instructed relevant authorities to ensure that the export process of these products through customs and border crossings continues without interruption to prevent fruit spoilage and financial losses for farmers and traders.
According to the Herat Governor’s Office, a meeting was held chaired by Sheikh Maulana Islamjar, the governor of the province, with the presence of the head of industry and trade, a representative from the narcotics control department, customs officials, the head of the fresh fruit exporters’ union, and several traders. The discussion focused on ways to improve the fresh fruit export process and address existing challenges.
The Herat governor emphasized that the relevant institutions must work in close coordination to remove administrative obstacles hindering exports, allowing agricultural products to pass through customs as quickly as possible and reach external markets. Although the Taliban administration has repeatedly expressed support for the private sector, traders have consistently complained about complex bureaucracy and delays in customs procedures—a problem that, if unaddressed, could harm domestic producers.
During the meeting, it was also suggested that traders utilize the Khaf–Herat railway to facilitate exports and reduce costs. This railway line, which connects Herat to Iran’s rail network, is considered a significant option for transporting goods.
The fresh fruit exporters’ union and several traders expressed appreciation for the facilities provided by the Taliban administration and offered proposals to solve existing problems. They also pledged to take necessary actions, including purchasing the required wagons, to enable the transportation of fresh fruit via the railway.
