Taliban Administration Bans Resale of Distributed Government Land

The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has announced a ban on the resale of government land that has been distributed to citizens for housing construction, according to a statement based on the law governing the sale, distribution, and issuance of building permits for government land.
The statement emphasized that the purpose of distributing these plots is to provide housing opportunities for those in need, and any resale of such land is considered a violation of the law. The ministry added that preventing transactions involving this land is part of enforcing regulations related to the management of state properties.
The Ministry of Justice has also warned real estate offices to refrain from facilitating any buying or selling processes involving these lands. According to the directive, agencies that disregard this order will be shut down.
Furthermore, the statement mentioned that in addition to closing offending offices, both buyers and sellers of these lands will face legal prosecution. This announcement comes amid reports in recent years about informal trading of distributed land in certain areas, raising concerns about the transparency and oversight of the distribution process.
However, critics argue that the Taliban administration has yet to provide clear details on how it monitors the distribution of government lands or the mechanisms for addressing violations. They warn that the lack of a transparent and accountable system could open the door to abuse and increase pressure on citizens.
