Qatar and China Discuss Afghanistan’s Security Situation

Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, held talks with Yu Shaoyong, China’s special representative for Afghanistan, regarding the ongoing developments in Afghanistan. According to a report published by the Qatari media outlet ‘Qatar Tribune’ on Thursday, May 14, the two sides reviewed the latest political and security situation in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on strengthening joint regional and international efforts to achieve security and stability in Afghanistan. Al Khulaifi reiterated Qatar’s full support for all initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful means and consolidating the foundations of peace both regionally and globally.

These consultations come amid recent months during which Qatar and China have hosted talks between the Taliban administration and Pakistan to reduce border tensions. The initial negotiations in Doha ended without a concrete outcome, and about two months later, another round of talks was held in Urumqi, China.

Despite these diplomatic efforts, clashes and tensions between the Taliban administration and Pakistan continue, and no official agreement has been announced between the two sides so far. The ongoing situation has raised concerns about its security implications on border areas and regional stability, as well as questions regarding the effectiveness of the Taliban administration’s diplomatic approach to managing foreign relations.
