UN Report Highlights Ongoing Livelihood Challenges in Afghanistan Despite Limited Economic Progress
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has released a new report stating that despite some limited progress in the economy, the living conditions of the Afghan people and their access to basic services and job opportunities have not improved.
The report emphasizes that the modest economic changes have not made a tangible impact on the daily lives of the country’s residents. Many families still face difficulties in meeting their basic needs, and stable employment opportunities remain insufficient.
As one of the main UN agencies focused on development and poverty reduction, the UNDP continuously monitors the economic and social situation in Afghanistan. The agency has previously warned that without widespread access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and public infrastructure, improvements in macroeconomic indicators cannot translate into general welfare.
At the same time, experts believe that the extensive restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration, particularly in employment and social participation, have negatively affected the capacity for economic growth and job creation. The continuation of this situation could further widen the gap between nominal economic improvements and the actual living conditions of the people.
This new UN report comes as citizens in many provinces complain about the lack of job opportunities and limited access to basic services, calling for practical measures to improve their living conditions.
