515 Women Engaged in Small Businesses in an Afghan Province

Officials from the Department of Industry and Commerce report that currently 515 women in one of the country’s provinces are active in small businesses and home-based productions. These women work in fields such as tailoring, wool spinning, leather crafts, beekeeping farms, and confectionery.

Mohammad Naeem Hamkar, head of the department, announced that 21 female entrepreneurs have also received official business licenses from the Department of Industry and Commerce and are now conducting their businesses legally. He added that these licenses have facilitated the expansion of their commercial activities and enabled their lawful participation in the market.

According to officials, women’s participation in economic activities not only helps families achieve self-sufficiency but also plays a significant role in reducing unemployment and strengthening the local economy. This comes amid widespread restrictions imposed by the Taliban in recent years on women’s work and education, which have seriously challenged their access to economic opportunities. Consequently, many women have turned to small and home-based activities to sustain their families’ incomes.
