Iran and Afghanistan Agree to Increase Daily Truck Traffic to 2,400 at Islam Qala-Dogharun Border

In a joint industrial and economic meeting between the Afghan delegation and Iranian officials in Mashhad, both parties emphasized increasing the daily truck traffic from the Islam Qala–Dogharun border crossing to a maximum of 2,400 trucks per day. This measure aims to facilitate exports, imports, and the transfer of raw materials.

Abdul Nasser Amin, head of the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, stated at the meeting that with the cooperation of local officials in Herat province, more conveniences have been provided for the movement of Iranian trucks, and the process for obtaining traffic permits has been eliminated. According to him, these actions can reduce some of the existing challenges in transit and trade.

He added that currently about one thousand trucks are crossing back and forth on both sides of the border, whereas according to previous agreements, this number should increase to 2,400 trucks per day. Private sector activists believe that achieving this target will reduce pressure on traders and manufacturing industries and accelerate the supply of raw materials.

The meeting also emphasized expanding industrial and commercial cooperation between the two countries, with the establishment of joint factories proposed as one of the options to strengthen economic collaboration. The Islam Qala border in Herat province is considered one of Afghanistan’s most important commercial gateways with Iran and plays a key role in economic exchanges between the two sides.
