Karzai Claims New Agreements Legitimize Durand Line Amid Rising Tensions

Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, has stated that alongside recent attacks in Afghanistan, military and economic pressures from Pakistan have increased on residential areas and residents near the so-called Durand Line.
In a message on the social media platform X, Karzai wrote that as a result of this situation, documents titled “Peace Agreements” have been signed by a number of tribal elders on both sides of this line. According to him, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially approved and welcomed these agreements.
The former president described this move as an effort by Pakistan to legitimize the disputed Durand Line and said it contradicts Afghanistan’s national sovereignty. The Durand Line, drawn in the late 19th century between Afghanistan and British India, has long been a contentious issue in Kabul-Islamabad relations.
Karzai has called on the relevant authorities to clarify these documents and their consequences to the people. So far, the Taliban administration has not issued an official response regarding this matter.
