Pakistan Reaffirms Kashmir as the Key to Regional Peace

Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, on the anniversary of the military clash between India and Pakistan, stated that lasting peace in South Asia is impossible without a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue. He said this matter must be resolved in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Dar emphasized in a video message on Thursday, May 7, that Pakistan is a peace-loving country but will respond firmly to any threats against its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that Islamabad remains committed to regional stability but will use all available tools to defend its territory.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister praised what he called the “unity of the nation” and the “courage of the military forces” during the conflict with India, saying internal unity strengthens a country’s foundations against external threats. He described the “Bunyān al-Marsūs” operation, launched in response to India’s “Sundar” operation, as a “victory against aggression.”
According to him, several Indian fighters were shot down and key Indian military targets were hit during this operation. Indian officials have previously presented different details of these events.
Last year on May 7, India announced that following the killing of several tourists in the Pahalgam area, it attacked what it called “terrorist shelters” deep inside Pakistani territory. In response, Pakistan launched the “Bunyān al-Marsūs” operation and declared that it had targeted several Indian military bases with missiles and drones.
Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed region between India and Pakistan and has been the main point of tension and several military conflicts between the two countries since the partition of the subcontinent in 1947.
