Nuristan Elders Urge Immediate Action to Resolve Severe Local Issues

Several elders and influential tribal leaders from Nuristan province met with Dr. Mulla Abdul Wasi, the General Director of the Office of the Prime Minister, to highlight the widespread deprivations in the province and call for practical steps to address the fundamental problems faced by its residents. While expressing support for the ruling system, they emphasized that the people of Nuristan are grappling with serious challenges related to infrastructure and public services.

According to these elders, Nuristan’s difficult mountainous geography combined with negligence by past governments has resulted in significant shortages in areas such as road construction, schools, and clinics. They noted that the lack of standard facilities and basic services has made daily life extremely difficult for the local population.

The elders also referenced the impact of recent attacks from Pakistan on the security and livelihoods of residents, stating that numerous families have been displaced from their villages and regions as a result. They called for the provision of conditions conducive to the return of displaced families and the establishment of lasting security in the border areas.

During the meeting, the proposal to divide the Kamdesh district into two administrative units was also raised. The elders believe this measure could facilitate the delivery of services and administrative management. This demand comes amid ongoing complaints from residents of remote parts of Nuristan regarding limited access to local government offices.

In response, Dr. Mulla Abdul Wasi stated that the Taliban administration is paying special attention to resolving the issues of all provinces, especially Nuristan, Badakhshan, and Kunar. He added that in recent years, new districts have been created in several provinces to improve services, including two districts in Nuristan.

The General Director of the Office of the Prime Minister emphasized that Taliban officials are striving to compensate for losses caused by decades of war and unrest, promising that the requests and proposals raised will be shared with relevant institutions. However, the people of Nuristan remain hopeful that these promises will translate into tangible, effective action in the province’s deprived areas.
