Power Bank Fire Triggers Emergency Evacuation on Flight in Chandigarh, India

A power bank caught fire inside an airplane in Chandigarh, India, causing an emergency evacuation of all passengers. IndiGo Airlines announced that to prevent the spread of danger, passengers were swiftly evacuated from the aircraft using emergency slides.

According to Indian media reports, smoke was first noticed coming from a handbag just after the plane had touched down but before the disembarkation process had begun. Flight attendants identified the source of the smoke and promptly initiated safety procedures, carrying out an evacuation.

Following the incident, the flight was halted and technical inspections were conducted to ensure the complete elimination of any risks. No reports of casualties or serious injuries have been released so far.

In recent months, concerns about fire hazards caused by lithium batteries have grown. As a result, several countries, including India, have imposed restrictions on carrying and using power banks on aircraft to prevent similar incidents.
