UNICEF Provides Emergency Food Packages to 610,000 Malnourished Children in Afghanistan

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that over the past year, it distributed emergency food packages to 610,000 children suffering from malnutrition in Afghanistan. The organization stated that these aid efforts were a response to the widespread food shortage crisis in the country.
According to a message UNICEF posted on the social media platform X, the distribution of these specialized food packages has enabled families to treat malnourished children at home. The agency emphasized that continuing treatment at home is vitally important for many families facing economic hardships and limited access to health centers.
In recent years, Afghanistan has faced a severe humanitarian and economic crisis, which has worsened following political changes and extensive restrictions under Taliban rule, leaving millions, especially children, vulnerable to food insecurity. International organizations have repeatedly warned that reductions in humanitarian aid could further deteriorate the condition of vulnerable children.
UNICEF underscored that ongoing financial support from the global community is essential to maintain and expand malnutrition treatment programs in Afghanistan. Without such support, the risk of a rise in acute malnutrition cases among children will persist.
