Acting Minister of Water and Energy Inspects Amu Darya Shoreline Reinforcement Projects in Takhar Province

The acting Minister of Water and Energy of the Taliban administration visited Takhar province to inspect the progress of the Amu Darya shoreline reinforcement project in the Yangi Qala district. During the visit, he issued directives to advance the project. The inspection took place in the presence of the ministry’s deputy and the General Director of the Amu Darya Marine Zone.
According to the ministry’s press release, Mohammad Younus Akhundzada met with Asadullah Hamid, the General Director of the Amu Darya Marine Zone, to review the project’s execution process and emphasized the need for greater coordination among the officials. The project aims to prevent shoreline erosion and control damage caused by changes in the river’s course in parts of Takhar.
The acting minister also visited the Aykhanum port area in Dasht Qala district and directed officials to begin shoreline reinforcement work there as well. Aykhanum port is considered a significant border point in the northeast of the country and has frequently been affected by changes in the riverbed.
Continuing his trip, he inspected the water diversion dam in Kashni Koche village of Khwaja Ghar district and reviewed a proposal by Spin Zar Company. According to the plan, water will be transferred from Koche to the Abdan plain in Kunduz province.
While the Taliban administration speaks of progress in these projects, residents of northeastern Afghanistan have repeatedly called for greater transparency in implementing infrastructure projects and urged practical attention to the threats posed by Amu Darya shoreline erosion—a hazard that has damaged agricultural lands and residential homes in recent years.
