UNICEF Representative Meets Taliban Deputy to Discuss Expanding Humanitarian Cooperation in Afghanistan

Tajuddin Iwal, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) representative and humanitarian aid coordinator in Afghanistan, held talks with Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, the administrative deputy of the Taliban’s Prime Minister’s Office, about expanding joint cooperation. Iwal announced that UNICEF is ready to collaborate on providing shelter for displaced people and creating job opportunities.
According to Iwal, UNICEF has so far facilitated employment for approximately 45,000 individuals in cooperation with relevant organizations. He did not provide further details regarding the types of jobs or the regions covered, but emphasized that these programs aim to reduce the vulnerability of families.
The UNICEF representative also added that the United Nations is striving to increase humanitarian aid for returned Afghan internally displaced persons. In recent years, the wave of returning migrants and internally displaced persons has put additional pressure on scarce resources and basic services in several provinces.
While international organizations continue to emphasize ongoing humanitarian assistance, many citizens expect the distribution process to be transparent and fair. They also hope that the Taliban administration will ensure impartial access to aid for those in need.
