Afghanistan and Uzbekistan Sign 16 Trade Agreements Worth Over $16 Million

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment announced that during a joint meeting with Uzbekistan’s private sector, 16 trade agreements valued at more than 16 million US dollars were signed. These contracts cover dried fruits, wheat, foodstuffs, clothing, and medicine.

According to a statement from the Chamber, the joint business meeting between private sector representatives of the two countries was held in the Surkhandarya province of Uzbekistan. Arin Zelagi Azimi, Deputy Investment Director of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, along with several Afghan traders, attended the meeting.

Mr. Azimi, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality of the Surkhandarya governor, emphasized the importance of such meetings in strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries. He said that continuing such programs could pave the way for more sustainable cooperation between the private sectors of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

He also proposed that with the approach of the fresh fruit harvest season in Afghanistan, necessary facilities be provided to export these products to Uzbekistan and to establish transit routes to other Central Asian countries. Due to its geographical location, Afghanistan can play a significant role in regional transit corridors.

Meanwhile, Ulugbek Kasimov, governor of Surkhandarya, stressed his province’s full readiness to expand and strengthen economic cooperation with Afghanistan and assured continued support in this regard.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment added that the signing of these agreements is a step forward in developing trade relations between the private sectors of both countries.
