Construction of $160 Million Cement Factory Begins in Jawzjan Province

The Taliban Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced the official commencement of the large Yatimtaq cement factory in Jawzjan province on Monday, the 6th of Saur. According to the spokesperson, the investment for this project is declared to be $160 million.

Homayoun Afghan, the ministry’s spokesperson, wrote on his X page that the factory’s production capacity will be three thousand tons of cement per day. He added that once operational, the factory will provide employment opportunities for five thousand people.

The Yatimtaq cement factory is being launched while the mining and mineral industries sector in northern Afghanistan possesses significant potential. However, there have always been concerns regarding transparency in contracts and the management of revenue. So far, no further details have been released by the Taliban administration about the type of contract, the executing company, or the oversight mechanisms for this project.

Jawzjan province, located in northern Afghanistan, contains various mineral reserves. Economic experts stress that the success of such projects depends on transparent management, ensuring security in the area, and guaranteeing a domestic market for the products.
