Kandahar Municipality Orders Construction Projects to Use Privacy Screens or Face Shutdown

The Kandahar Municipality has announced that all construction projects in the city are required to respect residents’ privacy and cover their work areas with appropriate barriers and screens. The authority has warned that if construction activities do not comply with city regulations, work will be halted by the relevant district office.

Municipality officials told Ariana News that citizens must adhere to urban planning principles to contribute towards creating an orderly, valuable, and dignified city. According to the new directive, all buildings currently under construction must cover their work sites in a way that protects the privacy and dignity of neighboring residents.

Additionally, those responsible for multi-unit residential buildings have been instructed to enclose all parts of the project—from the foundation stage to the final unit—with suitable barriers. The directive emphasizes that any violation of these rules will result in the immediate suspension of the construction project without the right to appeal.

While respecting privacy and maintaining urban order are fundamental needs for any city, some Kandahar residents have previously complained about the lack of transparent mechanisms for enforcing city regulations and the arbitrary behavior of certain related authorities. To date, the Taliban administration has not provided comprehensive clarification on this issue.
