Taliban Health Minister Meets WHO Head in Kabul to Discuss Health System Capacity Building

The Taliban-run Ministry of Public Health has announced that Noor Jalal Jalali, the acting head of the ministry, met with Edwin Salvador, the World Health Organization (WHO) chief in Afghanistan, to discuss plans for enhancing the country’s health system capacity.

According to the ministry’s statement released on Wednesday, the two sides exchanged views on strengthening services in mental health, cancer treatment, polio eradication, addressing the health situation of migrants, and improving laboratory operations.

During the meeting, the Taliban’s acting health minister emphasized the importance of developing technical and professional capacities in these areas and requested further cooperation and support from the WHO.

The WHO is considered one of the key international agencies coordinating and supporting health programs in Afghanistan. Its cooperation in recent years has been vital for maintaining services in many critical sectors.
