Iraqi MP: US is the Main Cause of Tension and Unrest in Iraq

Faleh al-Khazali, head of the parliamentary faction “Al-Muntaṣirūn” in Iraq, has described the United States as the primary cause of chaos and tension in Iraq and the wider region. He called for the immediate implementation of the Iraqi parliament’s resolution to end the US military presence in the country.

According to Iraqi media, al-Khazali emphasized that what he called Washington’s “bullying” and its attempts to influence Baghdad’s economic and political decisions constitute a violation of Iraq’s national sovereignty, and he insisted that this must not be ignored.

He stated that the US uses pressure tools to advance its objectives, which challenges Iraq’s decision-making independence. He added that any external determination of Baghdad’s domestic affairs is a clear breach of the country’s sovereignty.

Al-Khazali also called on Iraq’s next government to prioritize the issue of expelling foreign troops. He stressed that the previous parliamentary resolution regarding the end of the US military presence must be fully enforced.

The Iraqi parliament member further noted that full realization of national sovereignty will only be possible when the last foreign soldier leaves Iraqi soil—an issue that continues to be a focal point of political debate and tension in the country.
