Doctors Without Borders Emphasizes Free Medical Services in Bamyan Province

Rito Yeda, the newly appointed head of Doctors Without Borders in Bamyan province, has stressed the continuation of free healthcare services in the region during a meeting with Gul Haider Shafaq, the Taliban-appointed governor. According to the Taliban administration’s press office in Bamyan, the meeting held on Monday, April 20, focused on how to deliver health services and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The two parties discussed necessary coordination to ensure the continuation of healthcare activities. The head of Doctors Without Borders emphasized that the organization’s services must continue in an organized manner with specific coordination so that Bamyan residents can benefit from free healthcare. Meanwhile, the Taliban governor called for the construction of a well-equipped hospital in Bamyan city center, the establishment of health centers in districts, and the provision of necessary equipment to improve the quality of healthcare services. This meeting comes amid serious challenges to healthcare access in many parts of the country, especially rural areas, in recent years. Restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration, especially regarding women’s work and education in the health sector, have raised concerns about the sustainability and quality of medical services. Aid organizations have repeatedly urged the removal of these obstacles.
