Taliban to Distribute $215,000 in Cash Aid to 900 Orphaned Children Across Four Afghan Provinces

The Taliban’s Department of Martyrs and Disabled has announced the signing of an agreement worth over $215,000 with a social service organization to distribute cash assistance to 900 orphaned children in the provinces of Kabul, Logar, Paktia, and Paktika. According to the department, the aid will be given in cash directly to eligible children. Taliban officials emphasized that the identification and distribution process will be carried out transparently to ensure that the rightful recipients benefit from the assistance. However, while aid distribution is being discussed, poverty and unemployment have increased in many areas of the country, and headless families face serious economic challenges. Civil organizations have repeatedly stressed the necessity of establishing clear and monitorable mechanisms to deliver aid to those in genuine need. Social experts also believe that although such aid can meet some immediate needs of orphaned children, without sustainable support programs and economic opportunities for families, the fundamental problems of this vulnerable group will persist.
