Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman Questions Fate of Pakistan’s Oil Amid Rising Prices

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, has criticized the rising oil prices in the country and questioned why, despite Pakistani-flagged oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, domestic fuel prices remain high. He has demanded clarification regarding the fate of these shipments.
Fazl-ur-Rehman stated that it is unclear where the oil from the tankers that passed through the Strait of Hormuz has been offloaded, and why it has not contributed to lowering fuel prices within Pakistan. According to him, there is a possibility that some of these tankers have docked at the port of Karachi to unload cargo for other countries instead of meeting domestic demand.
The leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam also criticized the Pakistani government, saying that instead of focusing on the interests of its citizens, the administration is prioritizing the interests of others. These remarks come amid increasing economic pressures on the people of Pakistan.
These criticisms arise while reports indicate a rise in global oil prices due to regional tensions. At the same time, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by the Islamic Republic of Iran has sparked concerns about potential disruptions in global energy supply.
Economic experts have warned that a prolonged situation and continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz could have widespread consequences for the global economy and even pave the way for a serious recession.
