US Senator Urges Dialogue Over Threats in Strait of Hormuz Tensions

A Democratic senator from Massachusetts has responded to recent comments made by US President Donald Trump regarding the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that threats and harsh rhetoric are not the solution and suggesting that Washington pursue dialogue with Iran instead of escalating tensions.

Ed Markey, the Democratic senator, reacted on the social media platform X, stating that “a crazy, profanity-laden tweet threatening war crimes will not open the Strait of Hormuz.” He added that the only solution to the matter is negotiating with Iran.

Addressing President Trump, the senator further noted that it would be better to start from the point he will inevitably have to reach; according to Markey, continued tension could have economic consequences for American citizens and even endanger the lives of US military personnel.

Markey’s response came after Donald Trump warned on Sunday that if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened, infrastructure such as bridges and power plants in Iran would be targeted. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s crucial energy transit passages, and any tension there could have extensive economic and security repercussions internationally.
