Democrat Abdulrahman Al-Sayed Wins Michigan Senate Race Despite $42 Million Israeli Lobby Opposition

Abdulrahman Al-Sayed, the Democratic candidate from Michigan, secured victory in the U.S. Senate midterm elections. He emphasized that the Israeli lobby group AIPAC spent more than $42 million against his campaign, but ultimately, those efforts failed. Al-Sayed has repeatedly spoken out against the crimes of the Israeli regime and the genocide in the Gaza Strip, a stance that angered former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The senator-elect stated that he does not want American taxpayers’ money to be spent on racism, genocide, or wars abroad. He stressed that tax budgets should be allocated to schools, healthcare services, and domestic infrastructure in the United States. He added that if you believe Palestinian children should live safely in their lands without being killed with tax-funded weapons, you have the right to fight for equal rights and human dignity, and that this is love, not hate.

Addressing Donald Trump, Abdulrahman Al-Sayed said that after his swearing-in as senator in January, Trump can officially call him “Senator” and jokingly referred to the difficulty Trump has had pronouncing his name.

This election took place amid Al-Sayed’s strong opposition to the policies of the Israeli regime and the vast financial support of related lobbies, reflecting part of the American political community’s resistance to the influence of these organizations on U.S. foreign policy. His victory also mirrors the anger of a segment of American voters regarding military spending and the country’s foreign policy.
