US Deputy UN Envoy Condemns Taliban’s Restrictions on Women and Calls for Immediate Reversal

Tami Bruce, the United States Deputy Representative to the United Nations, on Tuesday, October 27, condemned the restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration on women and girls, calling for their immediate removal.

She emphasized that over the past five years, the Taliban have undone decades of Afghan women’s achievements in security and peace. Bruce described the Taliban’s limitations on women’s access to education and employment as unacceptable and urged the global community to take concrete action to end this situation.

The US deputy envoy added that her country is committed to defending women’s human rights and their economic empowerment, supporting the active participation of women in all social, civil, political, and economic spheres. She also highlighted the importance of combating violence against women amid war and natural crises.

Tami Bruce noted that the United States is the largest individual donor in the global humanitarian system and called on UN member states to back their commitments to support the rights of women and girls with tangible measures.
