Taliban Office in Badghis Holds Contest on Hibatullah’s Decrees

The Taliban administration in Badghis province on Sunday, the third of Aqrab, announced a competition centred on memorising decrees issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s leader. According to the Taliban governor’s office in Badghis, 397 students took part in the contest, and 94 of them were named winners.
The Taliban governor’s press office in Badghis said Mohammad Wali Jan Rahmat, the group’s governor in the province, attended the ceremony announcing the results of the competition.
The event took place as, since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, Hibatullah Akhundzada has imposed numerous decrees and restrictions against women, measures that have deprived women of access to education, work and active participation in society.
Among the most important of these decrees are the ban on girls’ education beyond sixth grade since 2022, the suspension of women’s higher education at universities in December 2022, restrictions on women’s work in non-governmental organisations, and the approval of the law on promoting virtue and preventing vice in August 2024, which imposes severe controls on women’s dress, voices and social activities.
In addition, in December 2024, women’s education in medical institutes was also halted, underscoring the Taliban administration’s continued pressure on women’s rights in Afghanistan.
