Arab League chief visits south Lebanon town, condemns Israeli attacks

Nabil Fahmi, Secretary-General of the Arab League, visited the town of West Zawtar in south Lebanon on Tuesday during his trip to the country’s south. The visit came as repeated Israeli administration attacks on south Lebanon continue, with dozens of villages in the area under occupation.

Hanin el-Sayed, Lebanon’s Minister of Social Affairs, accompanied the Arab League chief on the trip to help better assess the situation on the ground. In addition to visiting West Zawtar, Fahmi also toured the Lebanese army’s al-Zahrani base and the Church of Sayyidat al-Bishara in the area.

In a speech at the church, the Arab League secretary-general described the situation in south Lebanon as “unacceptable” and stressed that Israeli actions lack legitimacy. According to him, Arab parties are trying to increase diplomatic and political pressure on Israel to prevent the continuation of these illegal activities.

Israeli attacks on south Lebanon in recent months have drawn broad regional and international criticism and have heightened tensions along Lebanon’s borders. As a regional body, the Arab League has repeatedly voiced concern over the damaging impact of these attacks on the stability and security of Lebanon and the wider region.
